Nine days ago China was abuzz with chatter about love. Why? Because it was May 20th. The day isn't officially a holiday in China, just another excuse to celebrate love.
As far as we can tell, this 520 I love you craze was born from human laziness. Before smart phones and WeChat, when people wanted to send a love note via text message, they would write 5, 2, and 0 as when these numbers are pronounced together they supposedly sound like the phrase "I love you" in Chinese. 5 (pronounced "WU") sounds like "Wo" (meaning "I"), 2 (pronounced like the letter "R") for some apparently sounds like "Ai" (meaning "Love), and 0 (pronounced "LING") strangely sounds like "Ni" to some people; which ...
Hanging out in Shekou often feels like being on vacation. Shekou, like many tropical holiday destinations, has great weather, beautiful blue skies (most of the time), palm trees and plenty of places to relax with great food and drinks. Unfortunately, the un-swimmable water of Shenzhen Bay makes beach life here an impossibility... at least for now. That doesn't mean though that we need to go without swimming. There are plenty of great places in Shekou to get wet, enjoy a few laps, or just sit by the water while soaking in the rays.
Here's a list of some of Shekou's greatest swimming pools that are open to the public. We'll continue to update this list with more info so be sure to che ...

UPDATE: at 9pm we received reports that police and fireman have left the scene and everything appears back to normal. Residents have begun entering their home. We have not received any reports of casualties or injuries.
Just before 7pm on May 20, 2017 a fire broke out in the Peninsula 2 Community off Wanghai Road in Shekou. We counted five fire trucks on the scene when we arrived at 7pm.
Witnesses and residents tell us the fire appeared to be on the fourth floor of Unit 1 of Building 5. We saw as police and firemen were still evacuating people; including children from the building and fireman were containing the fire.

So, if you're looking for love, want to give some love, or as Bad Company would put it, feel like makin love, this may be the weekend for you! There's lots going on to help get your hearts pumping.
