Late Sunday night we heard of an interesting project taking place just on the other side of Nanshan mountain. Shekou resident Casey James is currently working with a team of people to build a Burning Man pyramid right here in Shenzhen.
"My company is called Eco Built Systems. We manufacture pyramids, domes and aquaponic systems. We have this massive art project. Building this 111 foot (34 meter) pyramid. Our contribution to Burning Man is gifting this pyramid. This year it will be largest installation of a themed camp at Burning Man, the largest art festival in the world," Casey tells me during a phone interview.

UPDATE: 22:00 7/31/17 - The Heat Wave Warning is no longer in effect.
UPDATE: At 8pm Sunday July 30th, the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau updated the Heat Wave Warning from Orange to Yellow, stating that warm air will probably affect this area within 24 hours, or is affecting this area where the highest temperature has reached 35°C or above. They advise against working for long periods outdoors and avoiding high temperatures.
The Orange Heat Wave Warning was issued this morning by the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau at 08:25 for the land areas of Shenzhen, the Western Sea Areas and the Eastern Sea Areas.

Since the new season of Game of Thrones started a couple of weeks ago, many in Shekou have been wondering who will take the Iron Throne.
George & Dragon British Pub, for example, has been packed the last two Mondays as they screen the show for die hard fans; many of whom have read all the books and make guesses as to what will happen next in the show (which, from what we're told, has now gone beyond what the creator has written about in his books). FUBAR Brew Pub has also had good turn outs as they have also been screening past episodes (with subtitles in Chinese) before airing the new episode to catch people up on the show.

A massive explosion rocked Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province this morning at 8:40am, according to ahwang.cn. Two people are confirmed dead, with 55 injured, 12 of them seriously.

At 10am Friday July 21st, police were seen confiscating e-bikes on the corner of Shekou Old Street and Gongyuan Nanlu. Watch out if you're riding in the area.
