Shekou Ferry Services Cancelled Ahead of Typhoon Hato

Shenzhen China Merchants Shekou International Cruise Terminal Co. Ltd. has announced that all ferry service to and from Shekou have been cancelled for the rest of the day today and tomorrow. The cancellation is due to the arrival of Typhoon HATO. 

We'll update this post as soon as services are scheduled to resume.

Brownouts Hit Shekou on Hottest Day of the Year So Far

At 7:30 pm last night, the lights went out all across the Coastal Rose Garden 2 community.

The Coastal Rose Garden 2 outage was followed by a similar outage at the Sea Taste Community across the street about an hour later.

Tropical Storm HATO Expected to Hit Shenzhen with Winds Up to 126 km/h

UPDATE: at 8:50pm, Accuweather wrote that Hato's intensity is expected to be equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane in the eastern Pacific and Atlantic oceans, before making landfall during the late-morning hours, local time.
They predict landfall will be between Macau and Yangjiang with damaging wind gusts around 160 km/h (100 mph), widespread flooding rain and an inundating storm surge.

Where to Watch the Mayweather vs McGregor Fight

People have been asking about this much-hyped fight for months. Floyd Mayweather Jr (40), an undefeated 49-0 (26 KOs) former boxing world champion will go up against MMA superstar and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor (28) 21-3 (18 KOs) in Las Vegas this coming weekend.

Here's a list of the best places to watch the fight LIVE! We STRONGLY recommend making reservations as these places will surely all be packed for the fight. Earlier fights start from 9:00 am with the main fight scheduled around 11:00 am.

Opening of the Sea World Culture & Arts Center Announced by Design Society

On Friday August 18th, Design Society announced that the new Sea World Culture and Arts Center will open to the public in Shekou, Shenzhen on December 2nd, 2017.

Design Society will open with three inaugural exhibitions: Values of Design in the V&A Gallery, Minding the Digital in the Main Gallery, and Nurturing Dreams in Recent Work: Fumihiko Maki + Maki and Associates in the Subsidiary Gallery. In addition to the exhibitions, the complex will include Extra Time, Xiaoyan I MEW, a multi-purpose hall, a theatre, a restaurant and themed creative stores.

Registration Requirements and Fines for Foreigners

According to Chinese regulations, foreigners who reside or stay in domiciles other than hotels must register their domicile within 24 hours of arrival. This registration is done at the local police station of the domicile and may be done by the foreigner themselves or the persons who accommodate them.
If you stay in a hotel, this registration will be handled at the time of check-in at the hotel reception.
Failure to register brings with it some pretty stiff fines. Since last year, police have been more frequently stopping foreigners and asking them to show proof that they have registered. As of August 2017, the fines are as follows:

2017 NCPA International Opera Film Exhibition at Shekou IMAX

The IMAX Theater in the Gateway One Shopping Center across from Sea World in Shekou, Shenzhen, China is hosting the 2017 NCPA International Opera Film Exhibition from Saturday August 12 to Sunday September 24th.

Exhibition organizers, IMAX theater operators, media and others attended the opening ceremony at the Shekou IMAX on Saturday August 12th for the first screening.

Fourteen internationally acclaimed films from around the world will be screened, two per weekend for seven weekends. 

The first screening, during the opening ceremony, was The Long March; which tells the story of the Red Armys' struggles during China's revolutionary war.

At 10:30 am Friday August 11th, police were seen confiscating e-bikes on the corner of Shekou Old Street and Gongyuan Nanlu.
