You may have seen, or at least heard about, shared umbrellas popping up around China back in April. They seemed to have appeared overnight, hanging on fences and railings around the city.
Like MoBikes, E Umbrellas didn't have docking stations. Instead, each umbrella had its own lock for which you could get the combination by scanning the QR code. Seemed easy enough; however, within a few weeks E Umbrella reportedly "lost" most of the initial 300,000 umbrellas they made available; costing them millions of yuan.

Now a new docked shared umbrella service has recently made its way to Shekou. We ran into a bunch of these JJ伞 (Pinyin: San, meaning umbrella) in Sept ...
If you've entered or exited China to or from Hong Kong you've probably already seen and experienced long lines at the border waiting to pass through customs. You may have also noticed that some people don't have to wait in these lines and quickly pass through a self-service area (e-Channel). If you're here for an extended period of time, are a business traveler, or meet other qualifications, you can also skip those long lines and use the self service areas!
It's important to point out that as you'll need to go through two different custom inspection areas; one on the mainland China side and another on the Hong Kong side. This unfortunately means that you'll also need to apply for these tw ...

There is no charge to complete either of the above two actions (although first time vaccinations may incur a small fee for the certificate). The following article provides the information necessary to fully comply with this regulation.
UPDATE: As of January 29th, 2018, registration can now be done via WeChat. Click here for details.

First and foremost, all motorcycles are banned in Nanshan, Luohu, Futian and Yantian Districts of Shenzhen (including motor bicycles, tricycles and light motor vehicles). That means that technically no e-bikes are allowed to ride on the roads in Shekou.
Having said that, there are some exceptions or reasons you may see them without being confiscated. We'll try to explain those clearly here.
Some e-bikes have been exempted from the ban by following accepted standards. Here are a few examples of those exempted:
vehicles used to repair public facilities;
postal servics vehicles;
express delivery vehicles; and
vehicles used to deliver bottled water/gas
The above mentioned ...

On May 30th, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced that effective June 1st, 2017 drone owners are required by law to register their drones, if they weigh more than 250 grams, with the CAAC.

Anyone flying drones illegally will be punished in accordance with public security regulations, the authorities have said.
An online registration system is now available and can be found here. Unfortunately, it's only in Chinese.

Hanging out in Shekou often feels like being on vacation. Shekou, like many tropical holiday destinations, has great weather, beautiful blue skies (most of the time), palm trees and plenty of places to relax with great food and drinks. Unfortunately, the un-swimmable water of Shenzhen Bay makes beach life here an impossibility... at least for now. That doesn't mean though that we need to go without swimming. There are plenty of great places in Shekou to get wet, enjoy a few laps, or just sit by the water while soaking in the rays.
Here's a list of some of Shekou's greatest swimming pools that are open to the public. We'll continue to update this list with more info so be sure to che ...
