Police Checking Foreigners Registration Tonight (500 RMB Fine)!

UPDATE: 5 Foreigners Detained and Fined for Failure to Register 

According to Aaron Cannon, owner of Chill's Bar in Shekou, who is in close communication with the local police department: police officers will be checking passports and registration of foreigners tonight and issuing fines of 500 RMB. Here is his statement released earlier tonight:
"Attention!!! Shekou foreign affairs police officer just notified me that they will tonight do an operation to check passports and house registrations. Please carry your passport and a copy of your receipt for your registration at all times tonight. There will be a fine of 500 yuan per person for not caring and following the policy. ...

Shekou Car-Free Awareness Day Sunday September 25th

The Shekou Community Foundation, in cooperation with the Nanshan Traffic Transport Bureau has organized this event to bring awareness to the international Car-Free movement; which observes World Car Free Day on September 22nd.
From 9am on Sunday September 25th the streets of Shekou near Sea World and NH e-Cool plan to be bustling with people and activities; including a parade, farmers markets, peddlers, street art, classrooms, art activities, guest speakers, food carts, international performances and more!

What's up with the air sirens?

There's no need to panic. The Shenzhen Municipal Government is doing some early warning testing from 11:00 am to 11:15 of the city's air raid alarm. There will be three: A pre alarm, an air raid siren and the all clear.
- Pre-Alarm: 36 seconds, stop 24 seconds, 3 times. 
- Air Raid Alarm: 6 seconds, stop 6 seconds, 15 times
- The All-Clear: 3 minutes straight.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, we will have a chance to witness penumbral lunar eclipse during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. Weather permitting we can catch a glimpse at 3.05am September 17. The event will last for four hours and three minutes
As the moon passes through the penumbra (partial shadow) of the Earth, the moon will become slightly dimmer. More information to assist moon-watching by the public, the times of moonrise, transit, moonset, full moon and penumbral lunar eclipse during the Mid-Autumn Festival period are available here.

UPDATE: 3pm Wednesday Sept 14th. The Hong Kong Observatory today announced that "Super Typhoon Meranti was estimated to be about 570 kilometres east of Hong Kong (near 22.6 degrees north 119.7 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour towards the coast of Fujian.... according to the present forecast track of Meranti, winds generally over Hong Kong today are not expected to strengthen significantly and the chance of issuing the Strong Wind Signal No.3 today is not high. Mexican singer Vanessa Zamora released her critically acclaimed debut album, "Hasta la Fantasia" in Mexico in 2014 with two hit songs "Te Quiero Olvidar" and "Para Siempre." They were embraced on both sides of the border as she toured Mexico and the US.

Juan Hernandez, aka Juanito, returned to Shekou this week after spending four months as GM of McCawley's in Futian. He hasn't returned to the McCawley's family though. He has a new role as GM of one of Shenzhen's top Food and Beverage/Entertainment companies.
The Riverflow Group has hired Juanito as the new Manager of Shark Mediterranean Seafood Restaurant in Sea World.

Typhoon Nida Photos of Coastal Rose Garden Shekou

We took a short stroll down Coastal Rose Garden at 8am this morning to have a look at what kind of damage Typhoon Nida caused. There were heavy winds last night with gusts as high as 145 km/h so we were curious to see how our little town held up. Nobody was open (voluntarily) yet except for HH Gourmet.
