MoBikes "Forbidden" from Shenzhen Bay Park and Port

Shekou News recently reported that MoBike will use a combination of Internet of Things (IoT), big data and artificial intelligence to formally launch an "electronic fence" in Shenzhen during the Spring Festival in order to guide bicycle users to the proper use of and orderly parking of their bicycles.

The first batch of "forbidden zones," to be set up during the Spring Festival, include Shenzhen Bay Park, Shenzhen Bay Port and other areas. These forbidden zones will be marked in grey in the MoBike APP. Robo-Cops Patrolling Shenzhen North Railway Station During Spring Festival Travel Rush

Some 20 robot policemen are patrolling the north railway station in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, to help keep passengers safe during the Spring Festival travel rush.

The robots, about 1 meter high, have been on the job since Wednesday. They can aid their human colleagues in duties, such as asking passengers passengers not to smoke and searching for suspects.

China Lifts Ban on Mobile Phone Use on Flights

According to a notice issued by the CAAC on Tuesday, airliners can now make their own rules for passenger use of electronic devices and apply for approval from the CAAC.

Two major airlines in China, China Eastern Airlines and Hainan Airlines, have announced that passengers on their flights can use their mobile phones during flights from Jan 18th.

Currently, many other airlines are evaluating making the change. “Spring Airlines will complete an evaluation as soon as possible, and passengers are expected to be able to use their electronic devices, including mobile phones, in the first half of this year," says Spring Airlines spokesman Zhang Wu'an.

China Telecom Shenzhen Denies VPN Blocking Claim

Yet another VPN scare has hit expat news recently; this one claiming that telecoms in China will block VPN use by January 11th, 2018. You've probably already seen it. We're not going to do it any justice by reposting it. Since the report does claim; however, that the big Telecom companies will be the ones behind the blocking, we thought we'd jump right to them and ask some questions. We called the China Telecom office here in Shenzhen to confirm the claims.

China Sentences Man to 5 1/2 Years in Prison for Selling VPN

Wu Xiangyang has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison for selling a virtual private network (VPN) to bypass the Great Firewall, according to the South China Morning Post. The man, from Guangxi autonomous region in Southern China, is also reported to have been fined 500,000 RMB in Pingnan county for not having the proper licence for his VPN business.

Wu marketed his services on his own website, Taobao and other social media sites and is said to have brought in 792,638 RMB in revunue with 500,000 in "illegal" profits from his business; which ran from 2013 to June of this year.
