If you've entered or exited China to or from Hong Kong you've probably already seen and experienced long lines at the border waiting to pass through customs. Tian Hou Gong, Chiwan's Goddess Temple, is said to have been built as an offering to the Goddess Mazu as far back as 1410. You may also see the temple's name spelled "Tin Han" is some of their marketing materials.
Mazu is the patron saint of seafarers and is often visited by locals before heading off to sea. They say that of the 1500 temples devoted to her across 26 countries, this is the largest in Guangdong.
